Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) Policy
February 2025
This policy was adopted on 11 February 2022, and will next be reviewed: February 2026
This policy has been approved by: Annette Crosse (annette@egality.health)
Introduction to Egality
Egality is a community engagement agency focused on improving diversity in UK health research and trials. We work as a partner with our network of community organisations to transform communications and community engagement in research.
Statement of principle
Egality is committed to treating all people equally and with respect, irrespective of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. We will uphold ED&I in all aspects of our work. No one will be treated less favourably on the grounds covered in the Equality Act 2010 legislation.
Responsibility for promoting, implementing and reviewing our policy rests in all staff. Our Advisory Board and partners will be expected to contribute to ensuring that the policy is adhered to in their appropriate areas of work and influence. We will not tolerate any forms of discrimination as covered in the Equality Act 2010 legislation. We consider any forms of discrimination as harassment, and these have no place in Egality.
Implementation, monitoring, reviewing and promoting our policy
Egality will uphold and implement its ED&I policy by:
- Reviewing and assessing our progress in relation to implementing equal opportunities
- Ensuring that we keep up to date, and comply with, relevant legislative enactments
- Promoting an understanding of our ED&I policy amongst those involved with our work
- Consulting with partners how we can make our projects more inclusive (e.g., providing translation and interpretation services, making websites accessible to people with different abilities)
Dealing with Complaints
Egality’s CEO will take complaints of discrimination and harassment very seriously. She will investigate them thoroughly and provide opportunities for the person making the complaint to speak in a safe environment about their experience. She will store these complaints confidentially and ensure that they are addressed within 3 days of the complaint being raised.
